A Diamond celebration event was held at Woodbourne House on 6th September. This was part of a number of activities throughout the year, celebrating 60 years in which the Association has raised and disbursed more than £22 million for the benefit of those on the Island affected by cancer.
Lieutenant-Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Lady Gozney, Patron of the IOM Anti-Cancer Association, attended the event along with other Guests. The evening raised a wonderful £5,477. Malcolm Clague, Chairman for the Association, said: ” The event was the centre-piece of a fortnight of promotion of cancer awareness around the Island by the Association, assisted by the IOM Ambulance Service and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
Professor Derek Alderson, the President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England delivered an entertaining after-dinner talk and earlier that day, Professor Michael Griffin OBE, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh reflected on “Talking to cancer patients” at a sponsored lunchtime lecture at Keyll Darree for hospital staff.
